Why consider Otoplasty
You might consider booking an otoplasty appointment with Dr. Fodero if:
-
You see that your ears stick out too far from your head.
-
They are disproportionately large for your head
-
You’re dissatisfied with a previous ear procedure
-
Your ears are misshapen due to an injury or birth defect
Typically, otoplasty is done on both ears to optimize symmetry. It is important to remember that it won’t change their location or alter your ability to hear.

Earlobe Repair
Big, eye-catching earrings perk up any look, but they can also stretch your earlobes. Elongated earlobe holes, or split earlobes can also be caused by:
- Gauges placed in the earlobe, with increasing size, weight and time.
- Earrings getting caught and then pulled (typically long earrings snagging a dress or other clothing).
- Children pulling on earrings.
- Multiple piercings too close together or too close to the bottom of the lobe.
- Sudden trauma.
For elongated earlobes resulting from these situations, there is still hope. Book your appointment with Dr. Fodero at Northeastern Plastic Surgery to learn how they can regain their former firmness and you can go back to wearing your favorite earrings.
What to Expect
During your consultation with Dr. Fodero, he will listen to your concerns and what you want and make the proper recommendations.
Depending on what kind of correction is needed, otoplasty techniques vary. The specific technique Dr. Fodero chooses will determine the location of the incisions and the resulting scars —which are minimal. The procedure usually takes about two hours.
A few days after your surgery, the doctor will remove the bandages. As a result of the procedure, your ears might be red and swollen at this point, this is completely normal. However, to protect them when sleeping, we recommend wearing a loose headband. Otoplasty has a short downtime, so you’ll be able to get back to your everyday activities before you know it.
