Microdermabrasion
Picture the ideal treatment to get rid of all the debris and dead cells from the top layer of your skin—so you can show the beauty that’s underneath. Enter: microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive facial rejuvenation treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by gently exfoliating the outer layers of the skin. It can also be used to correct pigment discoloration, reduce the frequency and severity of acne breakouts, and clearing your pores.
Your provider will utilize a controlled spray of micro-crystals to apply and then “vacuum” your dead cells across the surface of the skin. These micro-crystals remove dulling debris and aging cells from your epidermis, freshening up your face and making it look smoother, healthier, and shinier. Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin, so you motivate your body to heal from the inside out.
Our microdermabrasion treatment is helpful for patients with a wide variety of skin conditions, including:
- Dryness and roughness
- Blocked pores
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage
- Uneven pigmentation
The best part? There is virtually no discomfort or downtime associated with this treatment. For some patients, their skin may appear pink or feel slightly tender following their microdermabrasion session. However, these side effects generally subside quickly.
Dermabrasion
Worried about deeper wrinkles or tougher scars? Dermabrasion will be your best friend during your rejuvenation journey, as it helps improve the appearance of your complexion and treat imperfections that affect your confidence.
During your dermabrasion treatment, your doctor will use a high-speed instrument that will “sand down” and polish the top layer of your skin. This exposes a fresher and undamaged layer while also forcing the body to produce healthier tissue in the healing process.
Dermabrasion usually takes between 15 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on the size of the treated area and the extent of the damage. Anestesia will be used to dull the sensations during the procedure, and you will be prescribed pain medication for your recovery.
Aftercare will vary according to your particular history and procedure, but you can expect:
- Avoiding active sports
- Staying home for a few days
- Not wearing makeup
- Redness and itching
Be your body’s advocate. Talk to Dr. Fodero today to find out what is right for you. As with any medical procedure, speak to your doctor to make the most informed decision. At Northeastern Plastic Surgery we are delighted to answer all your questions.
Glycolic Skin Peels
A glycolic skin peel might just help uncover a younger look—and more.
The main compound in glycolic skin peels is alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), which helps exfoliate dead cells that dull the appearance of your skin. By removing them, wrinkles and fine lines fade. AHA also provides extra hydration and encourages elastin and collagen production.
All these factors make glycolic skin peels the best option if you want to enjoy:
- Clearer and smoother skin
- A revitalized complexion
- Improved texture on your face
- Healthier tissue
Usually, this treatment requires a series of sessions, although results will start to appear after the first one! Some patients may experience mild tingling or stinging when the glycolic acid is first applied; otherwise, the glycolic skin peel treatment is relatively painless.
Aftercare
After your peel, you must be extra careful with your skin. You shouldn’t wear makeup for a few days and always use SPF. Keep your skin moisturized in order to allow it to heal and carefully follow your provider’s instructions, as they will tell you about other products you should use to protect your sensitive skin.
Keep in mind that glycolic peels are considered more intense than other facial rejuvenation techniques, but can treat imperfections found deeper in the skin.
TCA Peels
Depending on your case, your doctor can recommend a stronger skin treatment that’s able to penetrate the skin and tackle the imperfections that are stealing the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
A TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peel is a stronger alternative which removes the damaged outer layers of your tissue and allows your skin to heal on its own and regenerate with a softer, shinier and younger-looking texture.
This type of peel can:
- Diminish the appearance of fine lines
- Fade wrinkles
- Help with acne scars
- Conceal sun damage marks
Your TCA skin peel will be personalized and uniquely formulated to fit your specific skin type and needs. Like other chemical skin care treatments, it produces the best results when performed over a series of sessions.
