What Is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating that goes beyond what’s necessary to regulate body temperature. It can affect specific areas like underarms, hands, feet, or the face, and often occurs without any obvious triggers.

For those living with hyperhidrosis, everyday situations can become uncomfortable, leading to social anxiety and a constant search for solutions.

How Does Botox Treat Hyperhidrosis?

Botox (botulinum toxin) is FDA-approved to treat hyperhidrosis by blocking the nerve signals responsible for activating sweat glands. When botox is injected into the skin, it temporarily inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates the sweat glands. By preventing these nerve signals from reaching them, Botox effectively reduces or stops sweating in the treated area.

The effects of Botox typically last from six to seven months, after which the treatment can be repeated.

About the Procedure

The session lasts between 10 and 15 minutes, during which you will receive several injections with a microneedle in the target area. Once the process is complete, you can return to work and your daily activities without any downtime.

You will notice sweating gradually decreasing over the course of the first four weeks after treatment.
