Breast Augmentation

Dr. Fodero can increase the size of your breasts through breast augmentation with implants at his New Jersey practice. Enhanced curves are easily achieved through the careful placement of saline or silicone breast implants either beneath or on top of the chest muscle. Dr. Fodero works meticulously to produce breast augmentation results that look natural and balanced with a minimal amount of scarring. Several incision approaches are available, which Dr. Fodero would be pleased to discuss with you during an office consultation.

The type of breast implants you choose will depend on a number of factors. Silicone implants, FDA approved since 2006, are made of silicone gel encased in a silicone rubber shell and are favored by many for their natural look and feel. These implants have been safely used in Europe for years and provide exceptionally natural results. Saline implants are filled with a benign saltwater solution and are chosen by some patients for their lower rate of capsular contracture. These implants can also be implanted through smaller incisions. Overall, saline implants are extremely safe and have a realistic look and feel, as well.

Breast Augmentation with Breast Lift

Breast augmentation is sometimes performed in conjunction with a breast lift or mastopexy procedure, a treatment designed to raise the position of the breasts to counteract natural drooping caused by aging, breastfeeding, or weight fluctuations. While the breast lift procedure can be performed without the use of implants, Dr. Fodero can combine the breast lift with breast augmentation to restore lost breast volume and create a more curvaceous silhouette.

Breast Augmentation Candidates

Women who are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts, in good overall health, and of strong mental fortitude are good candidates for breast augmentation. Breast augmentation is an invasive procedure, and there are risks involved, so it is important that women have an understanding of the impact that breast implants can have on their lives. Breast augmentation recovery can last several months and though there are numerous benefits to breast augmentation, the impact of implants can be overwhelming if a woman is unprepared for change. As such, breast augmentation candidates should not be seeking implants as a result of societal, peer, or parental pressure. Only women with a personal desire to change their appearance, realistic expectations, and specific goals should seek breast augmentation.

For the reasons discussed above, teenagers should not seek breast augmentation. Teenagers are not fully developed, emotionally or physically, and so breast augmentation may be both unnecessary and detrimental; in the event a teenager later decides that she is unhappy with her implants, a second procedure would be required to remove them. If you are a teenager who is considering breast implants or your daughter has expressed interest in breast augmentation, we can provide counsel.

Costs

Offering Affordable Cosmetic Procedures

At Northeastern Plastic Surgery, we realize that breast augmentation cost is important to our New Jersey area patients. For that reason, we are happy to help with financing and payment options, as the cost of cosmetic surgery can deter some individuals from pursuing treatment. If you are interested in breast augmentation or breast lift surgery, we can provide superb patient care and the services you need at competitive and reasonable prices. To learn more about breast augmentation cost, we urge you to contact our New Jersey cosmetic surgery practice today.

Breast Augmentation – Cost Considerations

We take an active approach to providing our patients with affordable treatment; however, it is impossible to provide a quote on breast augmentation cost without first speaking with the prospective patient. At the New Jersey practice of Northeastern Plastic Surgery, we use two types of breast implants – saline and silicone – and offer a range of breast implant procedures to satisfy the aesthetic goals of our patients. As the type of implant and placement method will vary from patient to patient, and the scope of the project will be dependent not only on these elements but the patient’s health as well, cost can vary greatly (for example, saline implants are typically priced lower than their silicone alternatives, but for many women, including those with small frames or minimal breast tissue, saline implants are not an option). Discussing your goals with you in person can help us determine the most effective means of meeting your needs. Once a cost for the procedure can be determined, we can then discuss payment options.

If you are considering breast implants, we can educate you on breast augmentation risks, breast augmentation benefits, and cost. We believe that a woman should be able to make an informed decision regarding her body, and presenting prospective patients with all of the facts allows them to do just that.

  • Silicone Breast Implants
  • Saline Breast Implants

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants are FDA approved, and have been shown to be safe and effective. Renowned for their natural look and feel, silicone breast implants are a great option if you are interested in accenting your bust line with breast implants but would like to maintain a natural appearance. Constructed from a silicone casing and filled with silicone gel, these implants have a firmer texture than that of saline implants, and more closely mimic the feel of natural breast tissue. With sub-muscular implant placement, silicone implants are nearly undetectable, and the implants are less likely to ripple beneath the breast tissue. For these reasons, many women prefer silicone breast implants to saline breast implants.

Though there are numerous breast augmentation benefits, it is important to note the risks of breast augmentation so that you can make an informed decision regarding your treatment. Silicone breast implants are more likely to suffer capsular contracture – the compression and hardening of the breast implant as a result of scar tissue – than saline implants, and can cause health complications in the event of a rupture. Though ruptures are extremely rare thanks to the improved construction of modern silicone implants, it is still possible, and in such cases, the rupture is far less likely to be detected.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants utilize a benign solution that can be harmlessly absorbed into the body, making them the safest choice for women seeking breast augmentation. Individuals who are concerned with safety or the potential risks of silicone implants often find that saline breast implants alleviate their concerns while still meeting their needs. Saline implants are not only harmless in the event of a rupture, but ruptures are evident almost immediately. Unlike silicone implants which leak slowly and maintain their shape, saline implants quickly deflate, allowing the patient to seek treatment in a timely manner. If considering breast augmentation cost, saline breast implants are also typically more affordable than silicone alternatives. The many benefits of saline breast implants make them a great choice for women looking to revitalize their appearance and enhance their natural bust line.

We are proud to offer saline breast implants at our New Jersey cosmetic surgery practice, but saline implants are not for everyone. Because saline implants are filled with a liquid solution rather than a gel solution, they are more likely to ripple beneath the skin. Additionally, saline implants typically do not feel or look as natural as silicone implants. For these reasons, saline implants may not be the best option for thin women, women with minimal breast tissue, or women undergoing breast reconstruction surgery.

  • Incision Locations
  • Implant Placement Locations

Incision Locations

As the placement of breast implants is an invasive procedure, we utilize anesthesia for the health and comfort of the patient. There are several different incision locations which can be used for breast augmentation surgery:

  • Inframammary – An inframammary incision is made in the crease of the breast, or under the breast’s natural fold. This technique is often utilized with silicone breast implants, as it provides superior access to the chest wall muscle. Though this technique provides Dr. Fodero with the ability to easily place the implant, there is greater potential for visible scarring when compared to other techniques.
  • Transaxillary – The transaxillary approach can be used when placing saline breast implants, as saline implants can be filled after placement (unlike silicone implants, which are pre-filled). Because saline implants require smaller incisions, the transaxillary incision is made in the armpit, resulting in scarless breast tissue. The implant is then guided into place and filled with a safe saline solution.
  • Trans-umbilical – As with the transaxillary approach, the trans-umbilical incision can be used to place saline breast implants, which are then filled once in place. This approach leaves little or no visible scarring, as the incision is placed in the naval. Once the incision has been made, the implants are guided into place up the abdomen with the use of an endoscope, or small camera.
  • Periareolar – A placement option for both silicone and saline breast implants, the periareolar incision is made on the outside of the areola. This incision location results in little or no scarring, making it a popular choice for women seeking breast augmentation surgery. At our New Jersey practice, we are proponents of the periareolar technique because of its usability and positive results.

At Northeastern Plastic Surgery, we will discuss your goals with you in great detail and advise you of your options. Your satisfaction is our number one priority, and we will devise a treatment plan that works for you.

Implant Placement Locations

There are two methods for breast implant placement:

  • Subglandular Breast Implant Placement – This implant placement option involves placing the implant between the pectoral muscle and the mammary gland of the breast. Because the pectoral muscle does not have to be manipulated for placement, recovery time and post-operative pain are both minimized. However, some feel this placement option results in a less natural appearance.
  • Submuscular Breast Implant Placement – With this technique, the implant is placed behind the muscle wall. Because there is an additional layer of tissue between the implant and the exterior surface of the breast, the implant both appears and feels more natural. Though recovery time and post-operative discomfort are typically greater with this technique, many patients prefer it because of the results that are possible.

Recovery

Our Team Can Guide You through the Recovery Process

At Northeastern Plastic Surgery, we take an active role in preparing our patients for breast augmentation recovery. Our New Jersey practice is built on unwavering patient care, and we believe that educating our patients on the recovery process of their procedure is an integral step in any treatment. If you are considering breast augmentation or breast lift surgery, you can rest assured that we can guide you through not only your surgery (we can answer any questions you may have on breast augmentation risks, breast augmentation benefits, or cost considerations for breast augmentation), but the recovery process as well. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Joseph Fodero regarding treatment or breast augmentation recovery, contact our New Jersey cosmetic surgery practice today.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

It is important to note that breast augmentation is an invasive procedure, and the recovery process will require time. In the initial 24 to 48 hour period after the procedure, the breasts will likely be very sore and the patient may feel very tired. We can help minimize discomfort and pain with prescription medications, but the patient will still require one to two days of bed rest to help alleviate pain and soreness, and to promote the healing process. Several days after surgery, the gauze dressings will be removed from the breasts and replaced with a surgical bra. Roughly one week to a week and a half after surgery, any stitches that may have been required for surgery will also be removed.

The breast augmentation recovery process will continue for several weeks after surgery. The breasts may remain sensitive and swollen for as long as four to five weeks, during which time you should avoid physical contact to the breasts. Additionally, strenuous activity such as exercise as well as sexual activity should be avoided for at least one month after surgery to allow the breasts to adequately heal. If a strict recovery process is not adhered to, it can delay healing as well as cause injury or complications.
